We help communities to embrace diversity and overcome prejudice based on race, sex, class and ability
TVET ECD training
South African ECD sites and schools mirror the diverse communities that children come from and include children with different backgrounds, experiences, abilities and challenges.
Practitioners are often not equipped to address the range of social and emotional issues that children have to face, or that they as adults have to address in their personal lives and work. PDT offers the following training to TVET institutions offering ECD qualifications:
‘Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Childhood Development’: The PDT module covers the inclusion requirement of the new L4 Unit Standard, and meets all required assessment criteria. Experienced PDT trainers train TVET college staff in how to integrate the Persona Doll Approach into the current ECD Level 4 qualification, through mentoring and co-facilitation. We also offer assessment tools, training manuals and DVDs, and e-learning content for this module. This is an elective module requiring 28 hours / 1 week.
‘Manage Diversity in ECD settings’ (SAQA ID 12842): The course equips ECD practitioners with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to implement an inclusive, anti-bias programme for young children that respects and celebrates diversity and challenges bias using the Persona Doll approach. PDT provides TVET colleges with all training materials required to offer this course, including manuals for trainers and participants, and assessment tools. This is a Level 5 elective course, comprising 12 credits. Learners who demonstrate competency obtain credits towards a nationally recognised qualification:
- the Further Education and Training Certificate: Early Childhood Development at Level 4 or
- the National Higher Certificate: Early Childhood Development at Level 5.
- the National Diploma at Level 5.
